Post Vocational and Job Training for Adults with Autism

Young and mature adults with autism have been grossly neglected by school districts and individual schools around the country due to the lack of appropriate transitional programming geared to job-training in preparation for their adult lifetime. Parents too have been short-sighted in not demanding school programs that emphasize vocational training for autistic individuals, even though IDEA requires the same or comparable programming as that given to typical students. Even Vocational Rehab in Collier County has ignored repeated requests to assist high school age students in developing a job-skills programming that would ensure successful life skills for autistic individuals. A small group of concerned and active parents is now seeking to rectify the injustice committed against our children by creating a training center specifically designed to train autistic individuals in job and vocational skills. Please contact Michael and Harriet Stuart for more information. 239-594-1415

This should be an effort that the Adonis Autism Assistance Foundation can endorse. I hope that Mike and Harriet can present their ideas at one of our forums.
